GAME: Better Ball Twosome consists of two players competing as a team, each playing their own ball. The team’s score for each hole is the lower net score of the two partners on that hole. The higher scoring player’s score is thrown out for that hole. Players can select their own teammate or let your hosts do the picking. Handicap is set at 85% using handicap index as of July 8, 2024. The winning team will be the team with the lowest combined net score from the two rounds.
A 10 stroke handicap differential will be applied to teams where there is more than a 10 stroke difference in handicap index. The playing handicap of the player with the higher handicap will be reduced until a 10 point difference is achieved.
RULES: The rules of play for this tournament are governed by the 2024 USGA rules and all local and club rules as outlined on the rules pages in the DWGC Handbook and on this website.
Maximum allowable strokes on any hole is 10. Players must pick up their ball upon hitting an unholed 10th stroke.
Player whose ball will count must putt out.
Players whose ball is out of contention: If the partner is out of the hole, she should pick up and record her most likely score. If for some reason, you do not or cannot play a hole, write down par plus your handicap strokes (pops). Place and X on your scorecard next to your score for the hole if you picked up (i.e. X7)
If either of the partners is unable to play any one round the team is DQ’d.
If there is any question during play, the player should play a second ball keep both scores until completion of the hole, and bring the issue to the Rules Committee after the round for a ruling.
Ties will be broken using the USGA countback (9, 6, 3, 1) holes method.
SCORING: Exchange official scorecards with your opponent. You may keep your own score separately on another card. Record the best net BB in space provided.
At the conclusion of play, check scorecard hole by hole with your fellow competitor before returning scorecard to the snack bar. Sign and attest scorecards. Any rules questions should be referred to the Rules Committee (Berta Paul and Janice Bissell) before returning cards.
Each pairing shall turn in TWO scorecards signed by at least two members of the pairing. Players shall not leave the course until their scorecards are verified by the Tournament Chair.
Turn in card at snack bar to the Tournament Chair. Each team must have one representative present upon returning scorecards. This allows committee to confirm scores hole by hole, discuss any discrepancies and to determine if there were any rules questions.
THE COMMITTEE WILL POST YOUR SCORES. THIS WILL NOT BE A TOURNAMENT SCORE.
PRIZES: Winnings will be posted to your DCC accounts. Closest to the pin pays two places each day:
July 10th – Hole #7 (first shot)
July 17th – Hole #14 (second shot)
